ERIK FRIEDLANDER BROKEN ARM TRIO
Erik Friedlander cello, Trevor Dunn bass, Mike Sarin drums
Erik Friedlander’s cello playing avoids taking conventional routes. The New York-based musician has collaborated with John Zorn, as well was Laurie Anderson and Courtney Love. His Broken Arm Trio was inspired by Oscar Pettiford, who had to switch from bass to cello after injuring his arm. In so doing he introduced the cello in jazz music. ‘Small-group jazz executed with wit and soul’ (New York Times).
