ERIC VLOEIMANS / KINAN AZMEH / JEROEN VAN VLIET

Kinan Azmeh klarinet, Eric Vloeimans trompet, Jeroen van Vliet piano

A meeting between jazz and music from the Middle East, with famous Dutch trumpeter Eric Vloeimans, the celebrated Syrian clarinet player Kinan Azmeh and pianist Jeroen van Vliet.

Clarinet player and composer Kinan Azmeh has been praised for his intensely soulful playing by New York Times, among others. In 2010 he already played the Bimhuis in the band Hewar, which translates as ‘dialogue’. Then the civil war broke out in his native Syria and ever since he has been calling attention to the conflict, in collaboration with the UN, with the campaign #WhatDoesItTake.

Azmeh uses music to transcend cultural barriers, for example in Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble. In 2012 he met Eric Vloeimans, which led to regular performances together, among others at North Sea Jazz. Now they will join forces with pianist Jeroen van Vliet. The trio explores boundaries between traditional Middle-Eastern music and contemporary music.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
