ERIC REVIS QUARTET
WITH KEN VANDERMARK, KRIS DAVIS, CHAD TAYLOR
Ken Vandermark tenorsax, Kris Davis piano, Eric Revis bas, Chad Taylor drums
Double bassist Eric Revis brings
together influential band leaders from New York and Chicago in this
super quartet. ‘A truly diverse microcosm of contemporary jazz styles’
(Point of Departure).
Eric Revis is acclaimed for his impressive
double bass sound. ‘Eric’s sound is the sound of doom; big, thick,
percussive’, says Branford Marsalis, with whom Revis has collaborated
extensively. The acoustic bass plays a fundamental role in the quartet
in which Revis brings together well-known band leaders from the
improvised music world.
Saxophonist Ken Vandermark (Vandermark 5)
and drummer Chad Taylor (Chicago Underground Duo) have previously
played on the album Parallax by Eric Revis, linking
original compositions to pre-war jazz melodies and uncompromising
improvisations. Pianist on Parallax was Jason Moran; the current
quartet features another adventurous piano player from New York, Kris
Davis. With her, Revis has recorded the surprising album City of Asylum
(Clean Feed).
‘Eric is one of those dudes you ought to follow
whether you know where he’s going or not—something gripping invariably
happens on the way’ (Village Voice).
The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
