‘Ultimate Sideman’ Eric Ineke, one of Holland’s most renowned jazz drummers, celebrates his 70th birthday with his JazzXpress, ‘the best hard bop band in The Netherlands’ (Jazz in Europe).

‘Bebop and beyond’ is the main direction in the career of jazz percussionist Eric Ineke, and also in this super concert in honor of his 70th birthday. No less than three bands will hit the stage, followed by a surprising finale. Internationally renowned saxophonist Tineke Postma will perform with JazzXpress, which was founded 10 years ago by Ineke. Next up is Rein de Graaff Trio, the group with which Eric accompanies American jazz greats, with special guest Simon Rigter on sax. Additionally, Eric will form a piano trio with Peter Beets and Marius Beets.

Since the 1960s Eric Ineke has performed with a huge number of jazz icons from The Netherlands and the US, gaining him the moniker ‘Ultimate Sideman’ which is also the title of his book with interviews and stories. Eric learned his trade from his Dutch role model John Engels and from studying his American heroes up close in New York. At the ripe age of 59 he started his first band JazzXpress, with renowned Dutch musicians. ‘This quintet is now the best hard bop band in The Netherlands’ (Jazz in Europe).
