In collaboration with North Sea Jazz, the Bimhuis presents two acts that are currently making waves. The British band, Empirical, signed with Courtney Pine’s record label, is recognized for its airtight contemporary bebop. Both Mojo and Jazzwise have voted Empircal’s eponymous 2007 debut as Jazz Album of the Year. Michael Schiefer, a German singer whose campy showmanship enthrals audiences, uses electronics to transform and distort his lovely voice. ‘His voice is ironic, laconic and sounds wonderfully androgynous’ (Der Tagesspiegel).
