EMILIO SOLLA Y AFINES

Gorka Benítez-tenor saxophone, flute, Carlos Morera-bandoneon, Emilio Solla-piano, David Gonzalez-bass, David Xirgu-drums

The Argentinean piano player/composer Emilio Solla and ‘Afines’, a group of jazz musicians based in Barcelona, caused a furore with a completely natural fusion of tango and jazz. After the success of the ‘Suite Piazollana’ (a tribute to tango master Astor Piazolla) the CD ‘Sentido’ was released last year. ‘Every once in a while appears music of such accomplishment and beauty that it completely transcends boundaries of style or culture to become an instant classic. Sentido, the gorgeous new record by Argentinean pianist Emilio Solla and his group Afines, contains such music. ‘World’ or not, this is simply one of the best jazz albums of the year.’ (All About Jazz).
