EKE’s improvisations touch upon noise, jazz and avant-garde music. Oscar Jan Hoogland plays clavichord, Yedo Gibson is his powerful equal on sax and Gerri Jäger plays drums as imaginatively as he does in Knalpot. Their debut album recently has been released on Red Note, the label of Luc Ex, former bass player of The Ex; now he and pianist Veryan Weston present SOL12, a ‘free big band’ with the energy of a punk ensemble. It gathers renowned musicians from all over the globe from both the improvisational scene and contemporary ensemble music. The six ladies and six gentlemen effortlessly switch between noise and silence, abstract and melodic.
