EGBERTO GISMONTI SOLO
Egberto Gismonti piano, guitar
In his richly coloured, melodic piano solos Egberto Gismonti joins Western and South American music styles. The Brazilian multi-instrumentalist takes his cue from the great composers of his native country: Heitor Villa-Lobos, Baden Powell and João Gilberto. Improvisation is a constant factor in his career. In the 1970s Gismonti became known for his unconventional playing on 8- 10 and 14-string guitars. He recorded albums with such famous jazz musicians as Charlie Haden, Jan Garbarek and Naná Vasconcelos.
