The Dutch Jazz Collective comprises many young talents who are currently making waves in the Dutch jazz scene. The big band was founded in Rotterdam. Consequently, the first album Generations contains compositions of three generations of jazz musicians from Rotterdam, from veteran Ab Schaap to band members Jesse Schilderink and Tom Ridderbeekx. The album also features contributions by tonight’s special guests: Benjamin Herman and Jan van Duikeren.
Benjamin Herman is widely known as the sharply dressed saxophonist and leader of New Cool Collective, and as a true Dutch jazz icon. Jan van Duikeren is one of the most in-demand trumpet players in The Netherlands, well-known for his projects Fingerprint, JVVD4 and Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. The Dutch Jazz Collective is led by conductor Nils van Haften.
