Birth of the Beat tells a brand new story about the oldest instrument around: the drum. For thousands of years it has travelled all over the world, together with humans, from Africa to every other continent. Meanwhile, drums have developed in fascinating ways, from the first elementary drum to extended drum kits and advanced drum computers. Still, the rhythmic DNA remains unchanged in the music we hear today.

Song, dance and virtuosity have always been interconnected with drums, is what Drums United are showing in this spectacular performance. With colorful projections, the stage is transformed into an impressive time machine. We meet drummers from Senegal, Venezuela, Turkey and Bangladesh, at the initiative of Lucas van Merwijk. This Dutch drum virtuoso has made name all over the world with large latin orchestras like his own Cubop City Big Band.
