DRUMMERS DOUBLE BILL
Arend Niks, Rob Verdurmen-drums, composition, Frans Vermeerssen, Rutger van Otterloo-saxophones, George Pancras-trumpet, Joost Buis-trombone, Corrie van Binsbergen-guitar, Arjen Gorter-bass
Most of the time a double bill means that two bands share the stage, but one after another. Not in the Drummers Double Bill, initiated by drummers Arend Niks and Rob Verdurmen. Two bands together is the concept. The group plays new originals by Niks and Verdurmen, inspired by texts or Dutch legendary author Jan Wolkers. ‘Holland also seems to be fertile soil to nurture little big bands – think of the ICP Orchestra, Bik Bent Braam and the Willem Breuker Kollektief – a tradition that continues with this fine group.’ (Jazz Weekly).
