DORAN, STUCKY, STUDER & TACUMA PLAY JIMI HENDRIX

i.c.w. VPRO radio

Erika Stucky-vocals, Christy Doran-guitar, Jamaaladeen Tacuma-el.bass, Fredy Studer-drums

In the 60’s, Jimi Hendrix renewed the sound of the guitar in a revolutionary way. In those days, his talent for writing music was already noticed by Gil Evans. Fifteen years ago, guitarist Christy Doran, highly influenced by Hendrix, and drummer Fredy Studer rearranged the classical repertoire of Hendrix. A groundbreaking project (which was heard at the Bimhuis then), in which she, with vocalist Phil Minton, pianist Django Bates and bassist Amin Ali, turned Hendrix’ music inside out. With Tacuma’s explosive bass playing and the vocals of Erika Stucky, one of the most original voices in the international jazz scene of today, these new arrangements will definitely take a more raw and dirty, but surely a not less exciting turn. The concert of Doran, Stucky, Studer & Tacuma will be recorded by VPRO Radio and broadcasted in the program “jazz@VPRO” on Friday February 22nd, 10 PM – 12 PM at radio 6 (or via internetradio: www.vpro.nl/jazz).
