DONNY McCASLIN QUARTET

Donny McCaslin tenorsax, Jason Lindner toetsen, Jonathan Maron bas, Zach Danziger drums

Bold, futuristic jazz by American saxophone player Donny McCaslin, who plays a key role on Blackstar, the last album by David Bowie.

Regular visitors of the Bimhuis know Donny McCaslin as a fixture in jazz, as a tenor sax virtuoso and a composer with a penchant for both lyricism and challenging electronic experiment. It came as a complete surprise earlier this year when he appeared as a band leader on the album Blackstar by David Bowie.

McCaslin and his band formed the core of the emotional last recordings of Bowie, who died two days after the release. Their own album Beyond Now (out on October 14, 2016) is inspired by their experience with Bowie. From this group, McCaslin and keyboardist Jason Lindner will perform at the Bimhuis, with a talented rhythm section from New York. The Donny McCaslin Quartet is strongly influenced by hybrid styles from past and present, from the early fusion of Weather Report to the current wave of electronic (dance) music.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
