DOMINO QUARTET
in collaboration with VPRO Radio
Gianluca Petrella-trombone, Sean Bergin-tenor sax, alto sax, Antonio Borghini-bass, Hamid Drake-drums
The Domino Quartet brings together four of today’s most fascinating jazz soloists. Last year trombonist Gianluca Petrella won the DownBeat Critics Poll in the category ‘Rising Star’ and the Paul Acket Award during the North Sea Jazz festival for ‘Artist Deserving Wider Recognition’. Hamid Drake (including work with, Peter Brotzmann, Fred Anderson, Ken Vandermark) is considered one of the world’s finest drummers. Tenor saxophonist Sean Bergin’s M.O.B. is considered one of Holland’s best jazz orchestras. Just as in pianist Mal Waldron’s last quartet, here he is a prominently featured soloist. The Italian bassist Antonio Borghini, known for his work with, Stefano Bollani and vocalist Cristina Zavalloni, among others, is responsible for forming this group a few years back, who tonight make their Dutch debut.
