Dolphin Hyperspace | Joris Roelofs Red Flag
Friday24 May 2024

Dolphin Hyperspace, the L.A.-based duo with Nicole McCabe on alto sax and Logan Kane on bass an synthesizers, will appear on our stage for the first time, joined by drummer Jamie Peet. Opening act is a solo performance by Joeris Roelofs on bass clarinet.

Dolphin Hyperspace mixes electronic beats and synths with dazzling jazz. The duo references labels such as Brainfeeder and Leaving Records. The duo’s most recent EP features musicians from the blossoming Los Angeles scene, such as drummers Louis Cole and Justin Brown (Thundercat, Flying Lotus). Nicole McCabe played with major artists such as David Binney and John Escreet. Logan Kane is known as the bassist for punk funk band Thumpasaurus, among others. Drummer virtuoso Jamie Peet will join the duo for this concert.

For his new solo set Red Flag, bass clarinettist Joris Roelofs has selected music with a clear connection to left-wing politics: protest, battle and folk songs written and/or performed by artists such as Paul Robeson, Woody Guthrie, Kurt Weill, Hanns Eisler, Billie Holiday, Floh de Cologne and Frida Kahlo. Roelofs will add political context to each composition with images and projected lyrics.
