Nicole Mitchell has been chosen as the number one flute player in the Downbeat Critics Polls and by the Jazz Journalists Association. She will be performing on the Bimhuis stage for the first time in a top band brought together by acoustic bassist Wilbert de Joode, featuring American drummer Hamid Drake and The Hague based saxophone player Peter van Bergen. How does the jazz tradition sound in the hands of sonic adventurers? Cor Fuhler demonstrates this with his sextet The Gap. Oscar Jan Hoogland and The Job narrow the gap between free improv and pleasant pop songs.
