dOeK is the initiative of five open minded Amsterdam musicians who continuously strive to collaborate with exceptional improvisers from all over the world. For two days they giver room to highly original individuals who are ready to exceed genre distinctions and other boundaries. On Friday dOeK presents three new groups. The Amsterdam based international trio Eke creates ultra-dynamic instant compositions with sax, keys and drums. The tension between minimalism and chaos is sustained by the quartet with Cor Fuhler, Christian Pruvost, Tony Buck and John Edwards, musicians who are all into preparing their instruments in unorthodox ways; a balloon on a mouthpiece or magnets on the piano strings for instance. Seven improvisers, including master drummers Han Bennink and Paul Lovens, will operate in several line-ups to perform new music by Eric Boeren, one of the founders of dOeK. Tonight the Bimhuis cafe-restaurant will be serving a buffet menu instead of its usual a-la-carte menu (€ 15, from 18.30). Reservations recommended: 020-7882158.
