dOeK is the initiative of five open minded Amsterdam musicians who continuously strive to collaborate with exceptional improvisers from all over the world. For two days they giver room to highly original individuals who are ready to exceed genre distinctions and other boundaries. Reedist and former Amsterdam resident Tobias Delius introduces two musicians from his current city Berlin on the closing night of dOeK. Expect fireworks from drummer Christian Lillinger and smart interventions by bassist Clayton Thomas. Cello, double bass and electronics are the points of departure for the trio ScrutinizerS, in which Frances-Marie Uitti transforms the cello into a polyphonic instrument with her two bow attack and other techniques. Trombonist Wolter ‘Wollo’ Wierbos leads the refreshing closing act. West African melodies and rhythms coalesce with Moluccan language and jazz in Wollo’s World, in collaboration with the duo Boi Akih, who will give an additional performance on the Bimhuis stage later this month. Tonight the Bimhuis cafe-restaurant will be serving a buffet menu instead of its usual a-la-carte menu (€ 15, from 18.30). Reservations recommended: 020-7882158.
