dOeK’s 5 is still keen on new movements in impro and still not subject to trends like in the previous editions of the festival. The close involvement of the musicians is remarkable: dOeK founders Eric Boeren, Tobias Delius, Cor Fuhler, Wilbert de Joode and Wolter Wierbos are the programmers. All around the world they encounter musicians that evoke thoughts like; ‘I’d love to play with him!’ or ‘she would sound great with them…’. This is how a festival comes into existence in which new ideas are tested, new faces presented, old friendships renewed and long cherished dreams fulfilled. In Cor Fuhler’s PPP Orkest, his self invented keyolin plays a key part in a more or less acoustic surrounding with Roma influences. Michiel Scheen and Tobias Delius will renew their collaboration in a profound duo after almost twenty years. FFF Boeren improvises short and intense, sometimes loud pieces of which the form and contents will come to being in the process. Eric Boeren is also RIX’; with four students of the Hogeschool van de Kunsten (Utrecht Art Academy) he forms a weekly supporting group at the SJU Jazzpodium in Utrecht. This is how in a short time a solid ensemble of young improvisors was created. When becomes a concert a ‘sound installation’? Robbie Avenaim (Sydney), Steve Heather (Berlijn) and Cor Fuhler (Amsterdam) investigate this territory. Sean Bergin will do his first solo performance and will, no doubt, show unexpected sides of himself. Wilbert de Joode introduces David Stackenas (acoustic guitar) and Masako Naguchi (dance), both as a duo partner. After many years Wolter Wierbos brings Steve Beresford back to the Bim stage. The combination of this British improvisor and advocate of the upgraded middle of the road music, with American drummer Jim Black, will be a perfect final performance of dOeK #5.
