In 1995, Michael Moore recorded the CD Horn Guys with an ensemble of horn players only, in a way, playing a cappella without strings nor a rhythm section. For the first time since that event they are back together, including Gregg Moore, one of the founders of Available Jelly. Médéric Collignon is probably the most talented and surely most original musician of the new generation coming from the French jazz scene. On stage he is a striking and very present figure. Single-handed he forms an entire orchestra of which his peculiar, high voice may be the most important instrument. He can make people cry with joy but he can also make them feel quite uneasy. VPRO/Boy Edgar Prize-winner Tobias Delius presents his new ensemble Apa Ini. With Serigne Gueye on djembé, bugarabu, calabas and sawrouba. It all sounds very exotic but that doesn’t mean that Apa Ini performs ‘worldmusic’. Gueye does give the music a rhythmic impulse that is picked up by the others.
