DOEK FESTIVAL # 12

AFTERWARDS AT THE CAFE: DJ MORSANEK

Highlight in the annual Doek Festival featuring international guests such as guitarist Thurston Moore (ex-Sonic Youth), double bassist William Parker and drummer Hamid Drake. Pure improv.

The annual Doek Festival for improvised music has expanded to five days, with concerts at various locations in Amsterdam. The highlight is the concert at the Bimhuis with three exciting trios.

Stadhouders/Govaert/De Joode emerged from Amsterdam’s thriving underground. Up-and-coming talents Jasper Stadhouders and Onno Govaert, respectively guitarist and drummer of the explosive group Cactus Truck, join forces with Wilbert de Joode, who has made a name for himself as a double bassist in European improvised music since the 1980s.
Sax player John Dikeman formed a trio especially for this festival with musicians from New York who have inspired him since his youth: double bassist William Parker and drummer Hamid Drake. They have played in countless bands since the 1970s and are key figures in international improvised music. John Dikeman: ‘William and Hamid have played so much together, it’s hard to think of a better rhythm section in any genre, anywhere… I feel extremely honored (and terrified!) to bring this trio together.’

Poetry and noise come together in the trio of radical guitarists Thurston Moore (ex-Sonic Youth) and Andy Moor (The Ex) with poet Anne-James Chaton.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
