10 PM – CONCERT: SPOK FREVO ORQUESTRA
This thrilling Brazilian big band led by saxophonist Inaldo ‘Spok’ Cavalcante excels at frevo, lightning fast, virtuoso carnival music from Recife. Frevo originated 100 years ago out of European marching music and polka. Spok’s orchestral shows are always crazy and fun. ‘Spok plays Parker-like solos, the trombone parts are staggering, the trumpets rush to great heights… this is ADHD jazz of the most exciting kind’ (Volkskrant).
