The great gypsy jazz violinist Florin Nicolescu comes over from Paris for an exclusive performance with the trio of jazz pianist Peter Beets, who previously performed on the album Florin Nicolescu Plays Stéphane Grappelli. The program will obviously contain compositions by Django Reinhardt.
Rumanian violinist Florin Nicolescu was praised by his great example Stéphane Grappelli, the musical partner of Django. Florin became world famous through his collaborations with many well-known musicians, including Oscar Peterson, George Benson and Charles Aznavour. Peter Beets is internationally recognized as a phenomenal hard bop pianist. The Dutchman has performed with such greats as Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis and Roy Hargrove.

Django Amsterdam, with concerts, jam sessions, workshops and a family afternoon, is dedicated to the birthday of guitarist Django Reinhardt, the originator of gypsy jazz or swing manouche. This style of acoustic swing jazz became part of the Roma and Sinti culture thanks to Django, who’s generally considered one of the greatest guitar players of all time.
