Dimami plays smart groove jazz, characterized by thoughtful ensemble playing and an experimental edge. Since 1999 the Dutch trio has been collaborating with trombone player Joost Buis, who put his unmistakable stamp on the group’s new repertoire. Lyrical harmonies of trombone and alto saxophone are accompanied by bare bass and drum grooves, often culminating in raw improvisations. ‘It has everything that jazz needs: effort, tension and improvisation’ (NRC).
