Regarded as highly promising, the Dutch trumpet player Diederik Rijpstra is rapidly making his name in New York. There he recorded the CD The Living City with local talents, who will come over to the Bimhuis for a special concert.
The Living City is inspired by the almost tangible energy in a contemporary metropolis. Sound recordings of various New York streets have been integrated in the title song, in which the city awakes, lives and comes to rest again.
‘As lively as the city and equally unpredictable’, is how Trouw describes The Living City. ‘Surprising but logical is the influence of minimal music. City life is obviously subject to established, slightly shifting patterns; this idea of subtle repetition and variation is used very well by Rijpstra’.
The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
