Dick de Graaf Quartet
Dick de Graaf tenor sax/soprano sax/compositions, Barry Green piano, Jos Machtel double bass, Pascal Vermeer drums
Dick de Graaf is internationally renowned as a spirited and adventurous saxophonist with a timeless warm tone. This year he received the Edison Oeuvre Award for his contribution to Dutch jazz in the past forty years. The jury report speaks of ‘a true ambassador of jazz music, which he continues to innovate. He has the dynamics of a good speaker: taking the listener by the hand through nuance and contrasts, surprises and rest.’
The Dick de Graaf Quartet will play pieces from the album Festive, which was released this year by ZenneZ Records. On top of that, the band leader will present even newer compositions displaying his hybrid approach to jazz. The album includes a book in which Dick describes his forty year journey through the jazz landscape, full of humor and enthusiasm. During performances he will read from this book.
‘Vital contributions to the Dutch jazz ecosystem. Frontrunner in connecting styles, genres and influences’ (Jazzism).
