Diamanda Dramm

VIOLIN SPACES

Violinist Diamanda Dramm explores violin techniques from contemporary music in Violin Spaces, a series of fascinating compositions by Garth Knox.

At age 4 her first violin was her favorite toy, an instruments which she tested to its limits. In Violin Spaces, Diamanda Dramm once again investigates the possibilities of her violin, carefully dissecting and reassembling its sound. Former viola player of the legendary Arditti Quartet, Garth Knox, wrote a series of fascinating compositions especially for Dramm. All aspects of the violin are included, except classical bowing.

The remarkable collaboration between Garth Knox and violinist Diamanda Dramm dates back to 2011. Together they created a series of concert études for violin, aimed at essential techniques from contemporary music. These Violin Spaces are based on a staple for viola players, the Viola Spaces composed by Knox. The Spaces seduce the musician and the listener to explore contemporary music in a new way.
