DEWEY REDMAN QUARTET
Dewey Redman-tenor saxophone, Rita Marcotulli-piano, John Menegon-double bass, Matt Wilson-drums
His son Joshua is better known to the general public, but who refers to Dewey Redman as Joshua’s father does him no justice, nor the history of jazz. The man that’s been called ‘our greatest living tenor saxophonist’ by Downbeat Magazine has been an innovating and widely ranged musician since the 60’s. He developed a unique sound with, for example, the groups of Ornette Coleman and Keith Jarret in which he united freedom with traditional forms. Every note he plays is pervaded with a deep sense of soul, not just when he blends his voice with the sound of his instrument. With his current quartet he reaches the height of his powers.
