On December 19, Jules Deelder died at the age of 75. Deelder is best known to the general public for his prose, poetry, rap Rotterdam accent, always-black tailored suits and tightly combed back hair. However, he was also one of the greatest jazz connoisseurs in the Netherlands: his record collection consisted of more than 10,000 jazz long-playing records. For years he was part of jazz bands such as Trio Me Reet, De Deeldeliers and Deelder & Van der Lek. He has also compiled award-winning compilation albums such as Deelder Draait, Deelder Draait Door, Deelder Drumt, Deelder Blijft Draaien and Deelderrhythm.

Deelder has performed with Boris van der Lek for more than thirty years. Van der Lek is best known as a tenor saxophonist with Herman Brood and Golden Earring. He also toured as a co-headliner with Arnett Cobb and Harry “Sweets” Edison. With Benjamin Herman and Hans Dorrestijn as special guests, the Deelder & Van der Lek band now brings a musical tribute to the unforgettable poet Jules Deelder.

Last year Deelder released the bundle Hardgin and the album Totaal Loss in collaboration with Louis Gauthier.
