DE JONGENS DRIEST BRASS QUINTET
Matt Darriau rieten, Janfie van Strien sopraansax, Arno Bakker sousafoon, Joop van der Linden trombone, Michael Vatcher percussie
De Jongens Driest’s three brass players can evoke the sound of a complete orchestra. They have divergent musical tastes, from groove-jazz to Balkan, Latin, klezmer and African highlife. For this concert their miniature brass band has been augmented with two top class improvisers. New York clarinet player Matt Darriau is used to mixing avant-garde jazz with klezmer in The Klezmatics. Michael Vatcher is one of the most creative drummers in The Netherlands, ‘a true sonic magician with a distinct feeling for timbre’ (VPRO-gids).
