DAY 3: i.a. CHARLEMAGNE PALESTINE, THOMAS ANKERSMIT, UPSAMMY

Lights out. Flashlights on. A guide with a flashlight will take you on an immersive experience with music, performance and sound art, during the Minimal Music Festival 2021. Guest curator Theun Mosk, a renowned scenographer who worked with Boukje Schweigman, Michel van der Aa and Robert Wilson, transformed the Muziekgebouw and the BIMHUIS into a ‘spacetime music score’ with ingenious routes for groups of 30 people, including performances, food and drinks.

The Saturday of the festival starts with a family program, suitable for children from age six onwards, and continues deep into the night with progressive club acts. Participate in the ritual listening meditations of the legendary Pauline Oliveros. Let jazz drummer Eric Thielemans take over. Give in to the primordial soup of sound artist Gerjan Piksen, the cricket orchestra of Max Abysmal, or the energetic ancestral worship of West African minstrel Kaito Winse. Slagwerk Den Haag will dive into Philip Glass, and pianists Tomoko Mukaiyama and Helena Basilova will play the whispering music of Morton Feldman. Minimal pioneer Charlemagne Palestine will perform. And synth magician Thomas Ankersmit will bring a brand new ode to classical minimalism—a world première. For an overview of the acts and routes, please check the festival page.
