DAY 1: ASKO|SCHÖNBERG, SLAGWERK DEN HAAG, GREETJE BIJMA & OCEANIC, NIK BÄRTSCH
Lights out. Flashlights on. A guide with a flashlight will take you on an immersive experience with music, performance and sound art, during the Minimal Music Festival 2021. Guest curator Theun Mosk, a renowned scenographer who worked with Boukje Schweigman, Michel van der Aa and Robert Wilson, transformed the Muziekgebouw and the BIMHUIS into a ‘spacetime music score’ with ingenious routes for groups of 30 people, including performances, food and drinks.
The first half of the evening is dedicated to James Tenney, a loner in American minimal music. Asko|Schönberg will perform his Large Open Space, which literally leads you through the music into the center of the composition. Slagwerk Den Haag will present hypnotic pieces by Tenney and Peter Garland. Especially for this festival, Peter Adriaansz composed a wonderous, mathematical new work. The new collaboration between super vocalist Greetje Bijma and electronica wizard Oceanic exudes fun. Every performance leads to new music for Swiss pianist Nik Bärtsch, known from ‘zen funk’ group Ronin. For an overview of the acts and routes, please check the festival page.
