DAVID MURRAY INFINITY QUARTET FEAT. SAUL WILLIAMS
- Starts
- 20:30
New music mixing jazz and poetry by leading sax player David Murray, ‘unspeakably awesome slam-poet’ (Pitchfork) Saul Williams and the Infinity Quartet from New York.
David Murray, one of the most powerful saxophone players of our time, seeks innovation with his Infinity Quartet. Following collaborations with soul stars Macy Gray and Gregory Porter he will now perform with the ‘unspeakably awesome slam-poet’ (Pitchfork) Saul Williams. This important exponent of slam poetry (live poetry performance) made name with his unique blend of rock, hip-hop and spoken word. Saul Williams has collaborated with among others Rick Rubin, Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) and Zack de la Rocha (Rage Against the Machine).
David Murray made name in the New York alternative jazz scene of the late 1970s with his instantly recognizable style, which encompasses soul, gospel and free jazz. Ever since he played the Bimhuis for the first time in 1976, his first concert outside the US, he has released over 150 albums under his own name. In his Infinity Quartet he collaborates with some of the finest contemporary jazz musicians.
‘The main attraction is his tenor-sax playing – a slithery, gospelly sound that can seem to compress the works of the instrument’s greatest practitioners into one celebratory roar’ (The Guardian).
‘Stories, hallucinations, apologies: they all run together in a stream of consciousness that’s awesome to behold’ (NME on Saul Williams).
The Bimhuis restaurant
is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till
