DAVID MURRAY BLACK INFINITY QUARTET

Afterwards at the café: DJ PHILIPPONA

David Murray tenorsax, Rod Williams piano, Jaribu Shahid bas, Nasheet Waits drums

David Murray is one of the most powerful saxophone players of our time, and one of the most productive jazz musicians. Ever since he played the Bimhuis for the first time in 1976, his first concert outside the US, he has released over 150 albums under his own name.

What is so striking about this oeuvre is the instantly recognizable style of the saxophone player, which encompasses soul, gospel and free jazz. With Black infinity Quartet he will perform music of his latest CD Be My Monster Love, on which he collaborated with Macy Gray and Gregory Porter.

‘The main attraction is his tenor-sax playing – a slithery, gospelly sound that can seem to compress the works of the instrument’s greatest practitioners into one celebratory roar’ (The Guardian).

Afterwards at the café: DJ Philippona.

The Bimhuis restaurant
is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via
020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free
entrance).
