The invigorating Focus Suite by Eddie Sauter became world famous thanks to the warm interpretation by Stan Getz with strings. David Kweksilber, Werner Herbers and The Stolz Quartet will perform Focus alongside elegant cool jazz, the lyrical ‘Tombeau de Couperin’ by Ravel and surprising contemporary music by Guus Janssen.
Saxophonist David Kweksilber, conductor Werner Herbers and The Stolz Quartet are about to go on a swinging orchestral adventure. Their point of departure is the jazz masterpiece Focus Suite (1961), composed by Eddie Sauter for saxophone legend Stan Getz (1927-1991). His original improvising part will be performed by Kweksilber. Additionally, The Stolz will perform jazz and orchestral music arranged for oboe and three string players.
The Bartók influenced orchestral jazz suite by Sauter has lots of room for improvisation, of which Getz made brilliant use. Experienced in jazz as well as classical music, Kweksilber is an ideal performer for the suite. Classical hobo quartet ‘The Stolz’ has extra surprises in store with music from the era of Sauter and Getz.
