Eccentric classical musicians play alongside top improvisers in the David Kweksilber Big Band, which plays the Bimhuis every two months. Its concerts are chockablock with exciting, sparkling new music. The Big Band’s repertoire is a well-filled treasure chest. Consequently, the special second concert of this month sounds completely different from the New Year’s concert on January 4. This concert includes compositions by such artists as Jacques Bank, Floris van Bergeijk, Cor Fuhler and Yannis Kyriakides, and premieres by David Dramm and Hilary Jeffery. On top of that, to help you make it through the cold nights, the band presents two arrangements of Body and Soul, by George Handy and David Kweksilber respectively.
