New music by David Kweksilber, based on Laurence Sterne’s satirical novel The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. Featuring singer Claron McFadden.
‘Lighthearted and featherbrained’, is how the David Kweksilber Big Band moves through the Tristram Shandy Suite, brand new music by the band leader himself, with a singing and speaking part for classically trained vocalist Claron McFadden. For his composition Kweksilber was inspired by the hilarious 18th century pseudo-autobiography The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman, by influential author Laurence Sterne. The suite will première during the 50th anniversary of the venue De Doelen in Rotterdam on May 20.
‘Thanks to its regular gigs at the Bimhuis this group has amalgamated into a buzzing organism with a strong repertory. The enormous wealth of timbre is the strength of this company. The open attitude of all its members makes it an incredibly elastic ensemble. They’re very attractive to go see in concert because they play with so much joy’ (de Volkskrant).
The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
