Scintillating new adventure by the David Kweksilber Big Band, featuring among others compositions by Willem Breuker and a performance by Teo Joling.
The David Kweksilber Big Band, ‘an incredibly elastic ensemble’ (de Volkskrant), plays brand new compositions alongside ground-breaking historical music for big band. As a tribute to Willem Breuker, who died well over five years ago, the group will perform a selection of his works in new arrangements by Maarten van Norden and Bernard Hunnekink. With his enormous drive, Willem Breuker became an international figurehead for Dutch improvised music. His intense, inspired playing has touched many souls all over the world. Special guest during this evening is drummer Rob Verdurmen, on whose flow the Willem Breuker Kollektief has cruised for decades.
Additionally, the band will perform Maarten van Norden’s pulsating minimal-funk ‘La Fonque’ and Rodrigo Faina’s fragile ‘Portrait of Two Cities’ with poetry by Julio Cortázar recited by trumpet soloist Felicity Provan. And: Teo Joling presents ‘Ezeltje strek je, tafeltje dek je’…
The DKBB will play two sets. In the first set two premières.
Program:
–Rodrigo Faina – Portrait of Two Cities: Instructions on how to sing / how to cry
