DAVE LIEBMAN/ELLERY ESKELIN QUARTET

Dave Liebman-tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, Ellery Eskelin-tenor saxophone, Tony Marino-basss, Jim Black-drums

The collaboration of the American saxophonists Dave Liebman and Ellery Eskelin has the potential of musical schizophrenia but after paying a closer look, the similarities stand out. Eskelin has the reputation of a free player but the whole tradition of the tenor saxophone can be heard in his play. Next to that, Liebman comes from a more mainstream background but is definitely not a straight ahead player. Each of them brought one of their musical partners. Bass player Tony Marino plays in Liebman’s groups since several years and drummer Jim Black has been performing with Eskelin since over a decade.
