DAVE LIEBMAN GROUP

Dave Liebman, ‘the reigning king of the soprano sax’ (Chicago Tribune), and his band play compositions by Ornette Coleman. Apart from his pioneering, loose improvisational style Coleman seemed to have an intuitive, almost casual sense for brilliant melodies, especially in the 1960s. Liebman and band take up Coleman’s themes and let them shine in harmonically enriched arrangements. Their CD Turnaround was chosen as the Record of the Year 2010 by the leading association of jazz critics and their live shows have received unanimous acclaim. ‘The group always seems to have another musical card to play’ (LA Times).
