DAVE HOLLAND & PEPE HABICHUELA FLAMENCO QUINTET

FEAT. JOSEMI CARMONA

Pepe Habichuela first guitar, Josemi Carmona second guitar, Dave Holland double bass, Juan Carmona percussion, Bandolero percussion

Jazz and flamenco have much in common; both have their own rhythmical codes and both provide space for improvisation. Miles Davis already flirted with Spanish music in 1960, on his album Sketches of Spain. Dave Holland, who played bass with Miles, takes it one step beyond with guitarist Pepe Habichuela; they play pure flamenco with fullblown, melancholic solos. Dave Holland is one contemporary jazz’s most highly acclaimed composer/double bass players. With his innovative playing style he turns the double bass into a lead instrument. Pepe Habichuela, third in a generation of successful flamenco guitarists, has frequently collaborated with such jazz artists as Don Cherry.

The concert will be 1 set of approximately 90 minutes, no intermission.
