During the DATSKAT Festival we remove our seats, transform our hall into a nightclub (complete with an epic view of the city), and present the best jazz, hip-hop, afrobeat, and neo-soul from the Netherlands and beyond. Featuring Sons of Jumira & Theon Cross on Friday, March 27, and ROSEYE & Allysha Joy on Saturday, March 28, including an afterparty in our café.

Sons of Jumira

Sons of Jumira puts a unique spin on modern jazz with the unusual combination of harp, double bass, and drums. Hypnotic soundscapes form the heart of the trio, which explores the boundaries of their instruments with almost childlike energy and playfulness. Harpist Ranie Ribeiro, bassist Julian Tjon Sack Kie, and drummer Mill Voyance create music that moves between hushed passages and open, energetic sections, having previously impressed audiences at the Concertgebouw and Supersonic Jazz Festival.

Theon Cross

Theon Cross has literally breathed new life into the tuba by transforming the instrument into a ‘21st-century sound-system’. Utilizing everything from deep sub-bass to complex overtones, he creates sound worlds deeply rooted in his African-Caribbean heritage. Cross, known as a key member of Sons of Kemet and for his solo albums FYAH and Intra-I, has collaborated with greats like Little Simz and Makaya McCraven, constantly putting the rules of the genre under pressure.
