Dash! feat. special guests Wouter Planteijdt & René van Barneveld
Friday27 December 2019

The three-piece formation DASH! (sax, bass guitar, drums) celebrates 15 years of creating ‘explosive mix music’ (Trouw), with two world class guitar players: Wouter Planteijdt of Sjako! Fame and René van Barneveld, of the influential Urban Dance Squad. Expect psychedelic jazz funk with nods towards James Blood Ulmer. Ornette Coleman’s Prime Time and the electric Miles Davis. This year sees the release of already the sixth DASH! album, Wired Up, on which co-founder Maarten Ornstein combines sax and clarinet with vintage electronics.

A DASH! concert is like the Olympic 100 metres: an exhilarating, physical experience. DASH! creates its own musical universe with deceptively plain materials, a universe where only notes that matter are being played; no room for redundant noise. Saxophonist Maarten Ornstein, bass guitarist Alex Oele and drummer Eric Hoeke exchange hypnotic free funk with unapologetic swing, vulcanic explosions and whispery melodies.

‘It all permeates the music of DASH!: Stravinsky’s rhythmic depth, the directness of pop, the swing and improvisation of jazz and lightning fast, tightly played melodies in uneven meters’ (Trouw).

Maarten Ornstein sax / bass clarinet, Alex Oele bass guitar, Erik Hoeke drums, Wouter Planteijdt guitar, René van Barneveld guitar
