DAFNIS PRIETO’S SEXTET

‘El Indio’ Mario Morejon-trumpet, Roman Filiu-alto sax, soprano sax, Peter Apfelbaum-tenor sax, Manuel Valera-piano, Charles Flores-bass, Dafnis Prieto-drums

Dafnis Prieto is a virtuoso drummer who knows how to play jazz as well as the rhythmically complex music of his native Cuba. Sometimes he sounds like a percussionist, even though all he needs is a single set of trap drums. Aside from his technical command the young player has a great talent for composition. This month a new CD by his sextet will be released, called ‘Taking the Soul for a Walk’.
