CYRILLE AIMÉE

Cyrille Aimée zang, Michael Valeanu, Adrien Moignard gitaar, Dylan Shamat bas, Dani Danor drums

Young French singer with a seductive, light tone of voice and a rich oeuvre, colored by the gypsy jazz of her youth. ‘Saucy, swinging and utterly charming’ (Downbeat).

Singer Cyrille Aimée grew up in Samois-sur-Seine, where the legendary Django Reinhardt lived, and where she became enchanted by gypsy jazz at a very young age. Currently living in Brooklyn, she is constantly being compared with American vocalists; New York Times even described her as a cross between Sarah Vaughan and Michael Jackson.

Alongside standards and modern compositions by, for example, Thelonious Monk her repertory also includes Spanish and French language songs. Her band includes no less than two guitarists: Michael Valeanu on electric guitar and Adrien Moignard on acoustic gypsy jazz guitar.

Aimée is a previous finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocal Competition in 2010 and winner of the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition in 2012.

‘Her voice is a marvel: saucy, swinging and utterly charming. But don’t let that girlish voice fool you; it’s powered by a sleek, powerful jazz engine with razor-sharp intonation, and her
scatting shows a deep strain of Ella Fitzgerald’ (Downbeat).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
