CURTIS STIGERS
Curtis Stigers-vocals, tenor saxophone, Matthews Fries-piano, Phil Palombi-bass, Keith Hall-drums
Former pop idol Curtis Stigers has broadened his musical vision since the nineties by returning to his first great love, jazz. But quality pop has not entirely disappeared from his repertoire. Next to playing old standards and original work, he brings songs from Ron Sexsmith, Randy Newman, Billy Joel, Lennon & McCartney and Joe Jackson. Stigers, (who’s prominent vocal sound can gently scream as much as his saxophone), released his album Secret Heart (Concord) last year which gave him new recognition. ‘Rock ‘n’ roll and jazz share so many of the same artistic bloodlines that it’s remarkable the two don’t fuse more often into the kind of inspired marriage of visceral clout and intellectual savvy conjured by the singer, songwriter and saxophonist Curtis Stigers’ (New York Times).
