CUONG VU TRIO

Cuong Vu-trumpet, Stomu Takeishi-double bass, Elliot Kavee-drums

This Vietnamese/American trumpet player from Seattle has rapidly developed himself into one of the most talked about musicians of his generation. He played with John Zorn, Dave Douglas and Myra Melford but also with David Bowie, Laurie Anderson and the Pat Metheny Group. His CDs ‘Bound’ and ‘Pure’ sound like a contemporary continuation of Miled Davis’ electric bands. ‘Highly praised, young, electric trumpet players like Nils-Petter Molvaer and Erik Truffaz are left far behind by this musician who has the courage to be the center of attention with his fierce trumpet playing. Cuong Vu rises above the mania of prefab dance beats’, is what the Volkskrant wrote about Cuong Vu’s previous Bimhuis concert.
