Finally the 25th anniversary of Cubop City Big Band is here! The festivities were supposed to happen in 2020, but were postponed due to Covid-19. Now it’s time to celebrate with the salsa and latin jazz big band that is loved throughout the world, not in the least in Latin America itself: the band toured the continent and scored multiple hits there. These are huge achievements for a latin orchestra from Europe!
The big band led by drummer Lucas van Merwijk has worked with a myriad of prominent latin musicians, including wie Alfredo ‘Chocolate’ Armenteros, Edy Martínez, Andy González (Libre, Tito Puente), Armando Peraza (Santana), Luis Conte, Nelson González (Cachao, Gloria Estefan, Paul Simon), Edmar Castañeda and Roberto Quintero. Lucas van Merwijk was voted best drummer in the jazz and latin/world categories multiple times by the readers of authoritative Dutch percussion magazine De Slagwerkkrant.
