CUBAN SUMMER SESSIONS: JORGE REYES

Cuban music led by double bassist Jorge Reyes, known for his collaborations with Dizzy Gillespie, Chuco Valdès en Roy Hargrove. Preceded by a documentary about the renowned Afro-Cuban vocalist/percussionist Chano Pozo.

The Cuban double bassist Jorge Reyes has performed with every noted musician in his native country, such as Arturo Sandoval and Chuco Valdès. Recently he was involved in latin jazz projects of Roy Hargrove and David Murray. At the Bimhuis he will lead a quartet that includes vocals, flute, piano and percussion.

In the 1970s, Jorge Reyes collaborated with Dizzy Gillespie, with whom he shared a fascination for the legendary singer/percussionist Chano Pozo (1915-1948). The concert will be preceded by a screening of a documentary about this unsurpassed conga player.

Tonight the Bimhuis serves besides the à la carte menu a Cuban menu for 20 Euro. The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.00 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
