CRAIG TABORN SOLO
1 set – no intermission
Craig Taborn piano
Solo performance by Craig Taborn, ‘one of the visionaries of the current wave’ (Downbeat), known among others as a member of Dave Holland’s Prism. ‘Deep, seductive intelligence at work’ (New York Times).
Many times pianist Craig Taborn has kept the Bimhuis in his grip with his intriguing playing, balancing between jazz, contemporary classical and influences from electronic music. Since the release of his solo album Avenging Angel he is counted among the ‘absolute elite of jazz pianists’ (de Volkskrant).
After many concerts with Dave Holland’s Prism and his own New York-based groups, Craig Taborn will perform as a solo pianist at the Bimhuis. Devotees of both jazz and contemporary classical music admire the way he explores the tones and overtones of the piano in their smallest details.
‘Deep, seductive intelligence at work. He’s delivering strong melody and rhythm without giving up any of his mystery’ (New York Times).
‘For improv listeners who like to hear jazz roots, Taborn is the most satisfying of pianists, balancing percussive abstractions with supple, Herbie Hancockish lines’ (The Guardian).
The Bimhuis restaurant is open after the concert (reservations via 020-7882158).
